Welcome to CeNS!
Steffen Rulands appointed at LMU's Faculty of Physics
Professor Steffen Rulands has been appointed recently as W2 professor for Theoretical Biophysics at LMU Munich. He studied physics at TU Munich and received his Diploma in 2008. For his PhD in the group of Erwin Frey (LMU Munich), he investigated “Heterogeneity and spatial correlations in stochastic many-particle systems”. In 2013, Steffen joined the group of Ben Simons, University of Cambridge, as a postdoctoral research associate. In 2017, he became group leader at the MPI for the Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden. His research focuses on using methods from non-equilibrium statistical physics and machine learning to understand active biosystems and artificial intelligence. His group also studies ensuing questions on fundamental physical principles underlying non-equilibrium matter. In collaboration with experimentalists they apply their work in the context of development, ageing and disease.
